Australia’s life insurers have you covered

The national vaccine program is an essential part of the roadmap towards ensuring a safe and healthy community as we reopen Australia, and Australians should have confidence that once vaccinated, their life insurance products will continue to protect and cover them as they have always done.

When it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine and what it means for your life insurance, we want you to know that we have you covered.

A COVID-19 vaccination does not affect your ability to claim on your existing life insurance policy

Receiving a vaccination against COVID-19 will not affect any claim you make on an existing life insurance policy now or in the future.

Life insurance products are designed to provide cover and support to Australians during their most difficult times, including when they are impacted by illness or injury, and receiving a COVID-19 vaccination will not in any way affect your ability to claim on an existing policy.

A COVID-19 vaccination does not affect your ability to access life insurance

Receiving a vaccination against COVID-19 will not affect any application you make to take out life insurance in the future.

We strongly support the vaccination program in Australia, and encourage all Australians who can to be vaccinated, in the knowledge that it will have no bearing on your ability to access life insurance cover in the future.

Life insurance covers you for any serious side effects from approved COVID-19 vaccines that meet the terms and benefits provided under your policy

While serious side effects are rare, any that arise as a result of receiving an approved COVID-19 vaccine will be covered by your life insurance policy where they meet the terms and benefits of your policy.

Medical evidence and advice all indicate that the chances of serious adverse side effects from any approved COVID-19 vaccine are extremely low. However, your life insurance covers you for side effects arising from approved COVID-19 vaccines, in line with the terms and benefits of your policy.

We fully support Australians getting vaccinated to protect themselves, their family and their community, and we are encouraging our own staff and employees to get vaccinated.
